Curative effects of cedar have been known in popular healing since old age. Almost every substance of cedar, from green needles to pieces of bark, has some healing effects. These substances can recover health and restore functional harmony of man’s body. They affect living cells and tissues and at the same time they participate on all processes both in man’s body and in every single cell. Treatment by means of healing plants is recommended to pregnant women, children prone to various inflammations, to seniors susceptible to colds, cardio-vascular and liver diseases.
Especially the healing power of Siberian cedars is valued – according to noted researchers the more northward the stronger healing qualities it contains. Conifer branches are rich of vitamins C and A (carotene) and other vitamins. In a fresh conifer branch there is more than 300 mg of vitamin C, especially in winter when the level of ascorbic acid reaches its maximum. If the conifer branches are kept in snow the level of vitamin C has not decreased for 2-3 months. But in summer or when brought to a warm room amount of vitamin C decreases down to 42% of its original level already in the first 5-10 days. The tips of young cedars and the top part of cedar crown were praised for its healing effects in case of scurvy. A squash from green cones, crashed together with minced beetroot, honey and water was recommended for drinking with milk or whey. Alcoholic tincture of cedar pollen is an excellent medicine for respiratory diseases and lung tuberculosis. Every part of cedar (conifer branchlet, resin, wood) possesses a high level of fytoncides. During a day a hectare of cedar forest produces more than 30 kg of flying organic substances that have an immense antibacterial power. Experts claim that such an amount of fytoncides will eliminate all germs in a big city. The air around every cedar branch, branchlet and needle is full of fytocides. It is good to have several branches of cedar in a vase at home since they produce ozonides to the air.
Fytoncides not kill germs, but they also positively influence the reproduction of the microbes that fight them. Fytoncides have a positive impact on man as well, first of all on human nerve system. Cedar helps people prone to hysteria, various mental disturbances, and insomnia. It would be good for them to sleep on a bed made from cedar and to change normal sleeping cushion for one with fresh cedar branchlets. The same is recommended to people who suffer disturbances of cardio-vascular system or respiratory diseases.
Ethereal oil, chlorophyll, vitamin concentrates are gained from cedar branchlets and vitamin flour rich of fytoncides, vitamins C and E and microelements (copper, cobalt, iron, manganese and phosphor) are produced.
